The Shipping Question
 One of the greatest challenges of selling online, is shipping. Costs can be high, and for the Green Business, shipping is also an environmental concern.
Here at Good Steward Naturals we are taking steps to address these issues.
1. Switching to FedEx - FedEx has increased the size of their hybrid delivery fleet another 50%. The shipping giant now boasts 264 hybrid trucks, which it says is the largest hybrid package delivery fleet in North America. These vehicles are 44 percent more fuel-efficient than standard FedEx delivery trucks and produce 96 percent fewer particulates and 75 percent fewer smog-causing emissions. All hybrid delivery trucks will soon be branded with the FedEx EarthSmart logo (above) to signify the company's efforts to reduce fleet environmental impacts. FedEx has set a goal of improving the fuel economy of its road fleet by 20 percent by 2020, in addition to also cutting its air-related greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
Always on the lookout for ways to improve our environmental responsibility, we have made the choice to switch to FedEx. Beginning in August of 2009 we will make the switch from UPS to FedEx. Smaller shipments that require Priority Shipping will still ship USPS and we will continue to use eco-friendly shipping materials. We will continue to recycle incoming shipping materials, use only biodegradable packing peanuts, and recycled boxes.
2. The Cost - We are also switching to an actual shipping cost system, instead of a fixed rate plan. All shipping charges are what we pay to ship, without any markup for handling. This switch will be taking place over the next couple months.
You can help by purchasing in bulk, thereby reducing the number of shipments required. To help you, we will be instituting Free Shipping on all orders over $250, and will be adding bulk selections to our catalog that are near our wholesale cost for the case price. Once again you should see these changes over the next couple of months.
